Market close, Monday 2 November 2026: Reliance Industries led the Nifty 50 gainers, while Infosys recorded the largest percentage decline. Below are the top 10 rising and top 10 falling shares within the Nifty 50, followed by an explanation of what is verified about their moves. This is a Nifty 50 comparison, not a ranking of every stock listed in India.

How the rankings were checked

We matched the official NSE Nifty 50 constituent list retrieved for this report against the NSE Capital Market final UDiFF bhavcopy for 2 November 2026. All 50 constituents matched an EQ-series record. Calculations use the exchange file’s closing price (ClsPric) and previous closing price (PrvsClsgPric), rather than an intraday quote or the last traded price. All prices below are in Indian rupees.

Daily percentage change = (closing price ÷ previous closing price − 1) × 100. Stocks are sorted using the unrounded calculation; the displayed percentages are rounded to two decimals. This matters for Coal India and Shriram Finance: both display +4.88%, but Coal India ranks marginally higher before rounding. Different websites may show different numbers when they use intraday snapshots, BSE prices or last trades.

In this 50-stock closing dataset, 38 shares rose and 12 declined. The ten decliners below are therefore the ten largest falls among those 12; a place in the table does not necessarily mean a large sell-off. The final two negative performers outside the top ten were Eicher Motors and TCS.

Why these ten shares rose

RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LTD: +11.60%

Reported catalyst: Reliance’s quarterly earnings were the clearest company-specific driver in the market coverage reviewed. Upstox reported a 41% year-on-year rise in consolidated profit attributable to owners to ₹25,548 crore for Q2 FY27. The share-price response is observable; earnings do not guarantee that the rally will continue.

TATA STEEL LIMITED: +5.83%

Sector context: Tata Steel rose alongside other metal names, including JSW Steel and Hindalco. This shows a broad metals rally rather than an isolated move. A fresh Tata Steel announcement explaining the entire daily gain was not independently verified for this report.

JSW STEEL LIMITED: +5.13%

Sector context: JSW Steel participated in the same strong metals session. The simultaneous gains in steel peers support a sector-level interpretation. They do not establish a single company-specific trigger, and no new same-day catalyst is claimed here.

COAL INDIA LTD: +4.88%

Reported catalyst: Upstox linked Coal India’s rise to its October operational update, describing record monthly total coal supplies and supplies to the power sector. That provides relevant company news alongside the price move; it does not measure how much of the gain was caused by that announcement.

SHRIRAM FINANCE LIMITED: +4.88%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Shriram Finance gained in a broadly positive market. A higher closing price establishes buying interest at higher prices, but does not identify the investors or their motives. This report does not attribute the rise to an unverified order, deal or earnings surprise.

JIO FIN SERVICES LTD: +4.28%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Jio Financial Services rose strongly, but it is a separate listed company from Reliance Industries and from Jio’s telecom operations. Reliance’s earnings rally is relevant market context, not proof of a direct change in Jio Financial’s earnings.

OIL AND NATURAL GAS CORP.: +4.19%

Sector context: ONGC advanced during a strong session for several energy shares. Lower crude oil was discussed as support for the wider Indian market, but it should not automatically be called a benefit to an upstream oil producer. A company-specific reason for ONGC’s full move was not verified.

ULTRATECH CEMENT LIMITED: +3.10%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: UltraTech Cement joined the gainers on a day when the benchmark rose sharply. The ranking documents its relative strength. A price rise alone cannot establish a new cement-price increase, demand forecast or broker upgrade, so none is asserted.

HINDALCO INDUSTRIES LTD: +3.02%

Sector context: Hindalco’s gain accompanied strength in steel and other metal shares. This is evidence of participation in the metals rally, rather than proof of a particular aluminium-price or overseas-subsidiary announcement. No fresh company catalyst was verified.

MAX HEALTHCARE INS LTD: +2.88%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Max Healthcare entered the top ten gainers in this Nifty 50 comparison. A positive price move must not be described as proof of improving quarterly profit without checking the results themselves. This article makes no such earnings claim.

10BAJAJ AUTO LIMITED (BAJAJ-AUTO)10350.0010339.00-0.11%

Why these ten shares fell

INFOSYS LIMITED: -2.03%

Reported sector explanation: India Infoline associated weakness in Infosys and Tech Mahindra with the preceding Nasdaq sell-off and concerns about returns on AI spending. This is a reported sentiment explanation, not evidence of a new Infosys-specific contract loss or earnings warning.

ICICI BANK LTD.: -0.76%

Observed banking divergence: ICICI Bank fell while several other private banks also declined, despite the rising headline index. That establishes relative weakness in these names. No verified same-day company announcement was found that explains the whole decline.

DR. REDDY S LABORATORIES: -0.74%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Dr. Reddy’s finished lower even as the Nifty advanced. A daily loss does not by itself establish a regulatory action, product recall or disappointing result. Those explanations require separate evidence and are not presented as facts here.

KOTAK MAHINDRA BANK LTD: -0.70%

Observed banking divergence: Kotak Mahindra Bank declined alongside ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. The common direction offers banking context, but cannot establish that all three were responding to one event. A specific new company trigger was not verified.

AXIS BANK LIMITED: -0.66%

Observed banking divergence: Axis Bank was another private-bank decliner during the strong benchmark session. Investor rotation is a possible interpretation, not a confirmed cause. This report does not claim a new credit-quality problem or regulatory development.

BSE LIMITED: -0.58%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: BSE Ltd’s listed equity fell modestly. This row refers to shares in the exchange company, not to a decline in the Sensex or in every BSE-listed stock. A new policy decision explaining the daily change was not verified.

HDFC LIFE INS CO LTD: -0.50%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: HDFC Life ended lower, but that alone does not demonstrate a change in insurance sales, margins or regulation. The verified fact is its closing-price decline. Any more precise business explanation would need a dated filing or reliable report.

SUN PHARMACEUTICAL IND L: -0.43%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Sun Pharmaceutical declined less than half a percent. It would be misleading to turn this small daily move into an unsupported drug-approval or USFDA story. No such company-specific explanation is claimed.

TECH MAHINDRA LIMITED: -0.22%

Reported sector explanation: Tech Mahindra’s decline accompanied Infosys weakness. India Infoline cited the US technology sell-off and AI-spending concerns as pressure on Indian IT sentiment. That sector narrative does not prove a deterioration in Tech Mahindra’s own orders.

BAJAJ AUTO LIMITED: -0.11%

No stock-specific catalyst verified: Bajaj Auto’s decline was approximately one tenth of one percent. A small move can still enter a losers table when only a minority of index members decline. No sales disappointment or other company event is inferred from the ranking.

What the day tells us—and what it cannot tell us

The closing data shows a strong split between large winners and relatively modest declines. Reliance’s 11.60% rise was substantially larger than the gains of the other index members. Metals also featured prominently among the leaders. On the losing side, Infosys was the only one of these ten stocks to decline more than 1%. The direction of a headline index should therefore not be treated as the performance of every constituent or an individual portfolio.

“Why” needs a different standard of evidence from “how much.” An exchange price file verifies prices, not traders’ motives. Dated results or operational announcements can provide a credible catalyst, while a sector-wide move supplies context. Neither lets an observer assign an exact fraction of the return to one piece of news. Where the reviewed sources did not establish a specific trigger, this report says so rather than inventing one.

These figures describe one completed session. They are not forecasts, buy or sell recommendations, or an estimate of fair value. Before using the list for further research, check subsequent company disclosures, corporate actions, liquidity and your own investment horizon. A large one-day gain is not evidence that the next day will also be positive.
